I was brought up in a Catholic household of quirky, nonconforming, and truly eccentric family members. These characters would only be believable if they came from a John Irving novel. They do not just "march to the beat of a different drum." They lurch backwards and forwards, never orderly, never in a straight line - characters all of them. I have continued to draw these kinds of people into my life and extended family. Because the atmosphere I grew up in was pretty much one of benign neglect, I learned to trust my own thoughts and look at things any way I wanted to. There was no set way of having to do things or think about anything. My father died when I was in high school. I spent a lot of time alone. I wasn't conscious of such things as Eastern Philosophy, Metaphysical ways of viewing reality, or psychic realms, but I also was not surprised to encounter such ideas in my early adulthood. Involving myself in the Metaphysical world was a natural evolution for me. It was not even a choice, at least not at the conscious level. I absolutely loved such exploration from the moment I began to encounter the books that opened my mind. My earliest teachers were Alan Watts, Jane Roberts and Carl Jung. Through their books, they offered me a perspective that allowed me to find my own unique view of the world. They gave me "permission" to acknowledge how I viewed reality. My first metaphysical book was The Search for Bridey Murphy, and that only whetted my appetite for more. Jane Roberts was a trance channel, who channeled an entity, Seth, during the 1960's and '70's. Seth's perspective, that we each Create Our Own Reality through the thoughts and beliefs we carry with us, has been the mainstay of my work and my life. Jane Roberts herself was a role model for developing my own art of channeling. Alan Watts offered a very clear way of looking at Eastern philosophy. Carl Jung's work brought me in closer touch with my own dreams and Guides. I've always enjoyed reading, especially fiction. Favorite authors include Alice Hoffman, John Irving, Tom Robbins, and Joyce Carol Oates. I love the poetry of Billy Collins. The music and lyrics of Neil Diamond, especially his music for Jonathan Livingston Seagull, has also been a great influence on me. In 1978, I co-founded Mind Matters with Sandra Stevens, an author, past-life regressionist and NLP counselor/therapist. For the past 30 years, we have explored our own inner lives through many readings, asking our own questions, and receiving guidance. I have also done thousands of private channeled sessions and have conducted classes in Meditation, Channeling, and getting in touch with Inner Guidance. Although my own channeling and dreams have been central in my life, I took a side journey for a few years into studying art. Here, too, I was inspired by a book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Two wonderful teachers, Kathleen Marie and William Selsenick, helped me get in touch with a love of drawing and art. I have studied and participated in the following:
In conclusion, I feel privileged to be doing the work I do. It's been an amazing process and Journey so far. I've loved observing along the way many Magical Moments. I urge anyone who feels drawn to the metaphysical/spiritual aspect of life to jump in and Go For It. Along with that, don't forget to enjoy it all. |
